A comeback Medvedev secured his initial title for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and finally parting ways with former coach Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is his maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from March of the previous year.

The win also signifies he has won twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six title deciders, comprising in that event in the past months.

His defensive approach and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

But the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serving game.

Medvedev came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The pair traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.

Moutet rescued four early-game opportunities in a competitive deciding set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, the winner earned the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
